I’m really surprised anyone fell for his
These “poor taxi drivers all say they only get $4 an hour. They only declare enough to say they get $$ an hour
Yet the guy on TV says he works 60 to 70 hours for only $400 a week and still tells us its only $4 an hour. They cant help lying, it’s a part of their business plan
As an ex taxi driver I can gaurantee on those figures, each and everyone of these poor drivers are pocketing at least $1000 a week undeclared cash probably much more
Why else would you put a near new vehicle on the road.
How could you afford to. How about a photo of his near new house. The private school his kids will be going to. His Iphone etc.

This may be a case of not judging others by your own standards. It sounds like it was quite a while ago you were driving a taxi. With GPS, smart meters, in-car cameras and eftpos transactions the opportunity to pocket undeclared income is greatly reduced. Anyone who has caught a taxi at Auckland airport in the last few years will know that there are always plenty of taxis and many drivers just standing and waiting, and waiting. Many of the issues were not even about money – but access to basic facilities most other workers take for granted. This is an example of how “independent contractor” are used and abused by large companies.
