Britomart to Aotea Square

Saturday 6 Sept * 11am * Auckland

We want all our beautiful children to reach their potential – but sadly one in four children don’t get a fair go in New Zealand.

Child Poverty Action Group is calling on people and organisations across Auckland to join a march from Britomart to Aotea Square to demand action on child poverty in Aotearoa.

We’ve invited politicians from across the political spectrum to attend the march. We’re looking for a firm indication from political leaders that they are committed to the steps needed to give all children a fair go so they can reach their potential.

We aim for this to be a really colourful, child-friendly event – we’d love to bring people together from all sections in our society to show the nation how much we care about our children and their well-being.

The main thing now is to get as many people along as possible and we could really use your help!

Spread the word about the Hikoi in your newsletters or emails to supporters (we’ve included some newsletter blurbs below)

1. Child Poverty Action Group Takes Action!

Saturday 6 September – 11am – Britomart to Aotea Square

New Zealand is a paradise, a land of plenty- so how do we explain that in one four children live in families who struggle to pay the bills and buy healthy food?
How do we change the fact that these 260,000 children live in cold, damp, over-crowded houses?
That they get sick more often and end up in hospital with serious illnesses that can affect them for life?
That they go to school hungry and find it harder to learn?
We change these conditions by insisting for as long as it takes that our elected officials make the welfare of our children their top priority.
Every voice is needed to keep these issues at the forefront in an election year. Join us in asking all politicians to: Form a cross party action plan to reduce child poverty.
* Treating all low-income children equally.
* Introduce child poverty legislation to ensure proper, regular measurement of child poverty on a range of measures, and setting targets and timelines for child poverty reduction.
* Improve incomes significantly for low income families and access to affordable housing and healthcare for all children.
* Ensure an accelerated rate of poverty reduction for Mäori and Pasifika, so they achieve equity with other children.
Are you willing to take a few steps in support of our kids?
Join the March on September 6th and get your friends to come.

Saturday 6 September – 11am – Britomart to Aotea Square

As a country rich in resources, New Zealand should be the best place in the world to raise our children. But one in four of our New Zealand children don’t get a fair go – that’s 260, 000 children. Please join the hikoi on Saturday the 6th of September to show your support for making child poverty in New Zealand a thing of the past.

Families living in poverty struggle to pay bills and buy healthy food, they live in damp over-crowded housing, their children are sick more often and end up in hospital with serious illnesses. New Zealand has ignored this reality for too long.

Are you willing to take a few steps in support of our kids? Join the march in Auckland on September 6th. Bring the kids and ask your friends to come too.
